The thickness and the material used for the rubber and sponge determines that speed and spin of the table tennis ball. Manufacturers continue their search for the right material. The rubber surface may contain a lot of long or short pips or protrusions or even have added materials to produce that sought after antispin.
Another thing that you need to consider is shoe grip. If your shoes don't have enough grip you may end up injuring yourself from the constant movement. However, if you have shoes that have too much grip you still would have very restrictive movement. Imagine a pair of shoes where you need to lift up every time you move. For quicker movements you really need a pair of shoes that both can slide and have good grip.
The table tennis nets are also regulation size. Nets should be not more than or less than 6 inches high. The table tennis net is tied on a both sides on a tennis clip and is strung to extend 15.25 cm or 6 inches beyond the table on each side.
